Growing up in Wellington during the late 80’s, my father, Joe Backhouse (who was a furniture designer and manufacturer) passed on an appreciation for great design, and products that are well made. I learned, that when done well, design enhances an experience or feeling with a brand, product or service. That appreciation, combined with a fascination for technology, is what led me to a career in graphic design.
My design aesthetic leans towards a minimalistic approach. I believe the power of great design is in capturing and emphasising the usefulness of something, whilst disregarding that which could detract from it. Great design speaks for itself, adding value to a brand, product or service.
When not working, you’ll find me out riding my bike with friends, or spending time with family.
